Working in Germany after studies

Germany is looking for highly qualified and skilled employees!

The legal requirements for foreigners seeking employment in Germany has been greatly improved. This applies in particular to graduates of German universities.

Despite bureaucratic hurdles that still exist, do not give up too quickly! In fact, a welcoming culture for staff and citizens of foreign countries is growing in government agencies and companies. The Career-Service at our University and the Welcome Center in Ravensburg will be happy to provide you with help and advice.

Legal requirements

On principle, foreigners seeking employment in Germany require a residence permit that entitles them to pursue gainful employment.

One exception to this rule applies to citizens of the member states of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and Switzerland: They enjoy freedom of movement as employees and have the same access rights to the labor market as Germans.

Since August 1, 2012 regulations which considerably facilitate the access to the labor market apply to foreigners who are not citizens of the EU. This applies in particular to foreign graduates of a German university. Here you find an overview of the most important regulations.
